Memorial Day

Please take time to remember those who have served to keep this great country of ours free.
My Father
1922-2001

By Theodore O'Hara, 1847

The muffled drum's sad roll has beat

The soldier's last tattoo'

No more on life's parade shall meet

That brave and fallen few;

On Fame's eternal camping ground

Their silent tents are spread;

But Glory guards with solemn round

The bivouac of the dead.

Birds and Blooms

Every year we get visitors that move in and make themselves at home. No.... its not anyones relatives. But a pair of orioles.
We noticed them about 4 years ago and they have been returning ever since. Finding their nest is no easy task. They manage to hide it among the leaves. But we found it with the help of supplies we "donated" for their building  material. Hubby cut up some yellow string and they found a blue tarp to use.
It's hard to see but hiding in among the leaves is their nest sack. Not the usual nest of twigs  but of string  and other things woven into the nest that hangs from the branches.
I'm hoping no wind storm damages it as it did one year. I could have cried when I seen it torn to bits and their precious eggs broke. I'll try and keep you posted with pics on when it babies. The are so fun to watch. Till then I will enjoy my roses that just started to bloom.

Good Intentions

Did you ever have one of those times that no matter what everything seems to be working against you? I feel that way now. I had all these things to do this past weekend and about none of them got done. I did get to go buy my flowers to plant but..... it decided to rain and be cold. So here sit all my flowers on the porch waiting.
I figured since I couldn't plant that I would tackle my porch rockers and fill in the rough spots and give them a fresh paint job. But my wood filler dried up,so.. another project put on the back burner.
Washing my curtains to hang on the wash line fell in the same problem with the weather. But to top everything off my hubby tells me not to get too clean happy that the contractor that put in our windows and siding is coming back to fix all the problems. That means more dirt drug throughout the house, me sleeping in the camper ( I work graveyard shift) and all my flowers trampled.  So I gave up and decide well if I can't do anything else, I'll wash my baby.
 Don't he look pityful?

Porch Party!

Rhondi at Rose Colored Glasses is having her porch party again. What a great way to get your porch spruced up and show it off! I might even get my slipcovers for my cushions  made faster this way. Now if only we would get some sun........

Pretty Pink Posies

Since I showed you my bathroom cabinet, I decided to show the rest of the bathroom. We still need to grout the tile and add the molding in spots, but for the most part we are finished re-doing it.
I would have loved to use an antique dresser for the vanity, but my hubby would have blown a gasket! So after alot of searching and debating we decided on this one. The selling point for me was the down lighting on the mirror . We had dressing room lights before and I hated them.
I saw a show where they made a similar cabinet out of an old window, and fell in love with the idea. So after about 2 weeks of looking for old windows I found this one at a yard sale for about $5.00.
Added a few pieces of my collection of chamber pots along with the overflow from the cabinet to the top.
A few baubles and beads to the vanity.
Throw in some satin and lace....
Of course some romantic candlelight.
A little bit of reading material in another chamber pot.
Last of all yet another  chamber pot being used as a trash can. Now all I need is my hubby to finish the project!

Party Time!

Taking time to join Cielo from The house in the Roses for her victorian tea party.
I was making plans all week on where to set up in the garden and had decided that since my wisteria was in full bloom it would be the perfect spot.
But mother nature had her own plans in mind.
Wind, rain and even frost took care of enjoying our tea outdoors. So I decided to set up in my window nook to take advantage of the suns rays as they would peek in and out from behind the clouds.
Since this is my first mothers day without my mom I wanted to honor her as well.
So here's to you mom and everything you did for us. We love you and miss! Give daddy a kiss from us and take care of our babies until we can join you!

Coffee,tea or lemonade ?

Spring cleaning has begun and that means cleaning in places that are not normally cleaned with regular weekly chores. One such spot for me is those high up places such as on top of my refrigerator. Since I only use the cabinet above my refrigerator for my christmas dishes easy access is not a priority.
I was desperate for a more lighter look here since my kitchen cabinets are soooo dark. I've been fighting with myself on what I want to replace them with but I can't make a decision.
This server I bought at a yard sale from a woman who used to have tea parties and had all sorts of wonderful tablecloths, napkins and tea accessories. I was in heaven!A couple of pieces of my collection of pink depression glass and a coffee grinder from my late uncle.
Still it looked dark so a small string of lights did the trick. I'm hoping to talk my hubby into a kitchen redo but until I do, I have to find whatever I can to make it appear less depressing.
