Time Flies By!

I did not realize it had been SOoooo Longggg... since I posted last. Life around here is an emotional roller coaster. My daughter is now off starting college to become an RN, and my son is still battling cancer Needless to say I have not been feeling very sociable,let alone in the mood to do any decorating. Halloween which I love was without one thing done, and Thanksgiving was made with a heavy heart. We scraped by Christmas (barely) trying our best to enjoy the day. I myself have a few health issues pop up due to stress but with some pills am doing somewhat better. I am praying things get better around here so I can do more than just go through the routine aimlessly. I just wanted to let you know I'm still here,if just in very small doses. I will try to get some things posted after we get daughters room rearranged since she is not here to object. Till then take care and please keep praying for my son.

Autumn Porch Decorating

I love Fall! The earthy colors are some of my favorites. If you follow my blog you would remember that I had white wicker furniture before. After a trip to the Biltmore Estate I was insprired by the more natural wicker that was used on the porches. So my hubby surprised me with a new porch set for my birthday.

I really love the warm honey color mixed with rusts and oranges.

Faux pumpkins along with some indian corn give just enough color to brighten my table. So many real looking pumpkins can now be found without the mess of a mushy mess later to clean up.

We love to sit out here at night and take in the cool night air along with the sounds of owls hooting in the distance.

Last years wreath I made was dressed up with a new bow for fresh look.

My mum from last year needs just a few more days to show off its yellow flowers just beginning to bloom. These two rockers now need to be repainted again to go more with colors of the rest of the porch.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my porch as much as I loved decorating it. Soon it will transform more into a more Halloween style but I usually wait till about a week before to do so.

Apologies

It seems like my life is forever in a turmoil. I feel like I am just going through days and weeks on end on auto-pilot. If you follow my blog (for what little of it has become) you would recall about my son. Of course when you think God has gave you enough to bare more follows. My son has now been diagnosed with cancer of both his 1 kidney he has left and of the liver. We will be soon beginning to start treatment at Hershey cancer center. He will get admitted for his treatment and will get 2 of these to see if there is any response before more will be done. I really need prayers for him. I myself am going to see the doctor to check my blood pressure since I had a few series of nose bleeds and the nurse checked mine and it was 172/90. Not good and since high blood pressure runs in the family it is probably been semi-high but never like this. Until then keep my son in your prayers.

Biltmore Getaway

Summer is slipping away so fast!! We usually take a 2 week vacation but had to cut it down to one week, so this year we went to Asheville, NC to spend time with family. One whole day was spent at the Biltmore Estate (could have been the whole week to suit me). This place is amazing! The detail of even the most simpliest thing takes your breath away. Life and homes were built with so much love then unlike todays cookie cutter styles.

If you never been there I would make plans to go at least once in your lifetime!

So many beautiful spots for great photos, but unfortunately no photos are allowed in the home itself.

Lush greenery abounds everywhere and I came home to dead plants and lawn!

Beautiful walkways along with water features are everywhere!

I can just imagine sitting on the porch with a ice cold drink and cool breeze watching the wildlife roam the many acres of land that surround the huge mansion!

Of course ideas abound go through ones head as you take in all the plantings and room decor! Hubby will never learn not to take me those kind of places!

Hope you enjoyed a few of my photos ( since I took over 100 pics) with just a hint of more things hiding just beyond the view . But then I would not want to show everything to you, since the joy of seeing for yourself is so much better!

Summer Porch Party

Welcome! I'm so glad you could stop by to say hello. We could not have asked for better weather for Rhondi's annual porch party. Thanks Rhondi for hosting this great party! If you were here last year you will see not too much changed here except the way I have the porch set up. I would have loved to add some of my bird houses but they are in need of a good painting and I did not realize it until I went to unpack them, so...Come on up and enjoy!

Of course when the word party is mentioned it does not take the party animals long to show up.

My rocking chairs have been around a long time and have been so many colors, but I think they will will stay white for now.

Remember these milk boxes? I use mine to hold my small garden tools and gloves. When I want to do a quick trim they are within reach and so easy to get to.

I just love to sit here and take in the piece and quiet.

These candles give off just enough glow to be able to enjoy sitting back listening to the owls and frogs singing their night songs.

A View From My Window

Well, my side of the car window anyways.

My hubby loves to go cruising around the country side . So in order to spend some together time, I hop on in and take in all the sights.

You never really see things unless you really hit the back windy and far less traveled roads.

We saw these cute houses and I just had to show you!

I love them! They are so whimsical and out of the ordinary. I hope you enjoyed seeing them too.

Weeds For Sale

Bring your wheelbarrow, I have lots of weeds! Since this was a very rainy spring they just took over. Of course on my days off was when it rained the most, so getting ahead of the game was not an option. I dread even putting my hands in here. My kitties think this is their litter box and now since the rain stopped the heat took over! YUCH!!!! Hate to say it but it's going to get round-up on it since I can't plant here until they fix our siding anyways.

In our wooded area is also weed heaven! If you look real close you will see poison wrapped in among the plants. This too was put on hold, since I really hate the idea of getting poison. Scratching during graduation ceremonies is not my idea of fun!

Believe me there is hosta, day lilies, coral bell, and lily of the valley there ( somewhere).

Now I have been busy with other beds that were not so bad. I'm just awaiting on my hubby to get me a trailer load of mulch.

If I can only keep the cats from digging up flowers!!!!

I hope to be able to get cracking on these this week a little at a time since I am just starting a 6 day work week it will be just a little at a time. Be sure to let me know how many weeds you want , I will be sure to box you up a big box!

Gone Too Long!

I do apologize, I have been gone way too long. But my home computer had a huge virus and it took quite awhile to be able to have someone salvage my photos,etc. I just had thought about making discs of them and the next time I went to get on line the damage was already done.So all the should of could of would of were useless. On the bright side it took a bit but my pics were saved! I wish I could have saved more things such as favorite liks etc. but I'm glad with what I got.

Life here has been a whirlwind with my son in recoop and my daughter graduating high school. It's time to just breathe! Where has the time gone? I hope it slows down for me to get some things on my to do list actually accomplished. Some of my plans are: paint my bedroom, do some landscaping, paint all the ceilings in the whole house, repaint the front door, wallpaper living room (if time permits), and some smaller pick me ups. Yes it is a huge list but if I manage some I will be happy. Of course we have plans to go on vacation to the Biltmore Estate with hubbies family. Maybe that trip will help get more ideas in motion.

I hope to be able to get posting shortly as soon as all the parties and celebrations die down that gives me time to slip away for me time,so until then........

The Ugly Duckling

I am still in the process of trying to get caught up on all my work that seems to have built up to a mountain. Between housework and trying to get my flower beds in order, I really did not get a chance to take pics or really even post. Hopefully this ugly duck of a place will turn back into the beautiful swan again.

To top everything off my daughters school project came home. Just what I need! Oh well they are fun to watch and I can't say anything since my childhood was filled with all sorts of critters from chickens to rabbits to birds.

So far she has kept after them and not complained once. Now I have to make my hubby finish my pond in the yard so they have a place to swim OUTSIDE! Until then, I hope everyone has a great Mothers Day!

Redneck Easter Basket

I am always teasing my hubby about being a redneck and now I think some redneck wore off on me. My kids were talking about how they did not get Easter baskets anymore ( mind they are not little ones). Of course being the sentimental mother that I am I wanted to give them one more basket even if it might cramp their style. Since I am so behind with everything I bought grass, candy and plastic eggs. I figured I could find the baskets easily enough. WRONG! I guess it really has been awhile since they had a basket. Just then my redneck hubby hands me 2 plastic grocery bags.

Well I guess it's the thought that counts!!!!

They even thought of me with flowers.

Hoping everyone has a happy Easter!

Update on my son... We are done with all of his life threatening operations . All he needs is to get one more for discs in his neck . Still unsure as to when that will be. Finally he gets to come home tomorrow. He was to come home Monday but he had pneumonia set in. I hope to be able to post again in the next week or two, but need to really do some cleaning around here first. I never got my Easter decor out in fact, ( head hung in shame) I still have Valentine decor sitting on kitchen counter waiting to be carried to shed to be put away. Now I need to go shop for something to make for Easter. I am so behind......

I sure could use all your prayers for my son Scott . He is at NIH near D.C. and gets his first operation tomorrow. The first for the tumor in his spinal cord followed by another on Friday for the one in his brain. After that we have his tumor at his left kidney to be removed followed by removing lesions from his right kidney. They are just going to watch the ones on his pancreas since they are small in size. I am heading out to go there later today. I sure do miss posting but if you are a parent you know your children come first before anything. I sure hope you forgive me for not posting ( I saw some have stopped following) but ..........true friends will stick by as others fall. Thanks! Terry

Just a quick post to tell you we are at a standstill with my son awaiting doctors. My hubby saw this home advertised in paper and said if we hit the lottery he would buy it for me. I quess we need to start playing the lottery in order to hit it!

Time Away

I just want to let you know I'm taking time away from posting. My son is is great need of my time right now. He was born with the genetic disorder VHL. At age 28 he has had his adrenal glands removed, brain tumor and now we just returned from the er from finding out he now has a mass at his kidney. I am in need of your prayers. My faith is in need of help. My family is going through so much right now. My sister who is in remission of breast cancer found out her hubby had prostate cancer and just had a heart attack on top of it all. How much is one family supposed to endure? I'll probably lurk to keep my brain on something else but until then.... Thanks in advance of be understanding.

With Valentine's Day approaching , I thought I would show you some of my wedding items. I found this wedding photo at a yard sale for $3. I wish I knew more about them but no matter it had to come home.

This doll I remember ever since I was little. Her dress is yellow with age but I like it that way.

No bridal bouquet here. The whole wedding party wore corsages.

A vintage beaded crown from a wedding veil made of pearls and crystals.

Maybe I will leave this on my table for our wedding anniversary. We will be married 18 years on the 13th. How time flies when your having fun!

One thing for sure my daughter and I love to disagree. Clothes,colors, style even decorating. Needless to say, we never agree when I redo the table. We never really have too many problems until Valentine's Day.

I did two different versions. This pink one more feminine with hints of silver among pearls and gems.

I love the sparkle on these pink paperweights.

I have "diamond" ring napkin holders ordered but I am still awaiting their delivery.

Plates are from Marshall's. I was tempted to buy more co-ordinating pieces but resisted.

I put my silver chargers under them to pick up the rest of the silver from the tray and silverware.

Now for the second choice.

I'm still looking for a red tablecloth to put under my lace tablecloth. With the weather I have not ventured out to look for one yet.

Salad plates are from Target last year along with more plates from Marshall's.

I also am using my candle holders from Christmas.If something can do double duty, it has a better chance of coming home.

Granted I'm still playing around so who knows what will be the final result. My Hubby asked how many times am I going to change the table!

My napkin rings came in so here I am still playing ! Decisions,decisions.

For The Birds

I have been spending alot of time at my kitchen window just watching the birds. We are currently in between storm systems awaiting the worst part. They are predicting icy conditions for later tonight. I am so ready for spring!

I usually can tell if bad weather is on the way by the way the birds go crazy finding something to eat.

They especially love to fight over peanuts I throw to them.

My favorite birds are the cardinals with their bright red feathers standing out against the snow.

I'm doing some MAJOR debating on going to work! The skies are clear but with the way the birds are fighting over room at the feeders, I think a day off just might be in order. Coming home at 4 in the morning with slick roads is not my idea of fun!

I hope to be able to show you my touches of red later this week since I have been trying to decorate for Valentine's day. It took me awhile to trudge through the snow to fetch my decorations but I braved the cold long enough to find them.

Old Lace

I've been digging through my vast collection of doilies, table and bed linens in search of just the right piece for my table.I figured I would show you just a few pieces my favorites. This is one from my mom that I have never seen before. It is not one that was done so easily.

Here is closer look at the grapes(?). Alot of work went into each one.

I love this piece but have never found the right spot for it yet.

Pillowcases with crocheted trim in variegated trim.

Oh how I wish I had the talent and patience to be able to do work like this!

One of about 3 of these bread doilies. I'm not sure how they were used. Anyone have a clue of how they were displayed?

I like to use this piece at Halloween. Reminds me of cobwebs.

Just a few odds and ends.

These pieces are still in one continuous piece. I assume they came from pillowcases that were long discarded.

I love these two. They are so feminine.

Staying Warm On A Snowy Day

Hello Ladies! I hope everyone is staying warm. We had a brief snow storm here but it quickly passed and left a fluffy blanket behind. I love snow but only when I have the day off! So in prep of what might happen my hubby got the fireplace ready in case of power outages.

Who says being without power is boring? It all depends on how you look at it. We love to sit in front of a cozy fire and just soak up the warmth. Since there is no tv or radio, we crank up the victrola and listen to vintage records.

For those who have no clue what a record is, they were round plastic discs that would emit sounds when played . LOL!

We bought this victrola from a man who was in the same room as my uncle at an assisted living home.

He had this stored in the attic and was selling his home and contents in order to stay there. He told us this was one of the first things he and his wife bought.

We buy alot of antiques, but I love to know some of the history behind them. I like to think of it as preserving memories. This serving tray I bought at a yard sale ages ago.

I want to insert a doily under the glass when I find the perfect size. That might take me awhile until then,I hope everyone stays warm!

On the Hunt

Winter doldrums must really be taking its toll on me. I have been cleaning and rearranging things ever since Christmas. One morning ( afternoon for me really) I woke up with the urge for a coffee table.

We did not have a coffee table for years. When we bought my late uncles antique marble end tables my old (newer) set was sold along with the coffee table that matched.

Of course we really at the time did not miss it since it really was a head banger for the kids as they learned to walk. Now with the baby about to graduate I think she can walk good enough without falling into it, HA! I have been scouting e-bay and auction listings with no luck. I really do not want to buy a newer old version if I can help it but so far the search has been unsuccessful. I have found one or two listings, but I'm not about to go hundreds of miles to fetch it! Not only that the cost of shipping was more than the table.

So if you are out and about shopping and see a crazy lady asking "hey got any coffee tables?" that would be me. I really think this search will drive me batty.

Bathroom Organized

Well, I did it. I got started early on my organizing part of the house we tend to shut the doors and drawers on. Of course I cheated and started with the bathroom!

But one has to start somewhere. I have to admit I really did not have to do too much here except throw alot of hair items away that were from my daughters younger days and old make-up.

Most was putting things back into their proper place again. Even so I'm really happy with the outcome. I still want to find a glass jar to put the Q-tips into. Baskets are filled with necessities.

I really need to buy some newer towels though. I'm really wanting some big fluffy white ones for a change.

I also want to add some lace edging to the end of the shelves but that will have to wait. Maybe in my cleaning house I will find some that I put away and forgot about.

Wouldn't be the first time I found a treasure like that. Even the dog has a shelf for his bath supplies. Another basket holds all the extras like candles and make-up travel cases.

Finding even my cleaning supplies neatly arranged will make cleaning time more stress free.

Next stop the hall closet! UGH!!!!!

Rosy Glow

I have been busy trying to find my house as I remove my Christmas decor. Why is it you find things after everything is supposed to be put away? Of course I'm in my I need a change mood trying to redo things as I go. Could be why it takes me forever!

I decided to touch up my mantle by adding this pair of lights. I had them just sitting around and never could decide where to put them. The banquet light is my hubbies pride. He insists it needs to stay here since it is so tall for fear of it being bumped and broke.

We bought these lights at an auction and discovered when we got home upon further investigation one shade was cracked. So after searching on eBay we found replacement shades. What luck!

Even the base of the lights have etchings.

I love the way they give off a rosy glow when lit.

I can't wait till spring when I get to remove this ugly paneling and add my wallpaper!

Now all I need to do is find a doily to put under and it will satisfy me for awhile. That will be another project.

Miss America!!! Yeah right!!!

I know I have been slacking in posts , but with the holidays there just was not enough time.

So....... what to show , what to show.....

How about this traveling beauty kit? I got this at an auction a few years back and really have not done anything with it but store it.

Brush, mirrror, and comb all have their special place to prevent moving.

The inner lining is a little dirty but I'm afraid of trying to clean it since it seems to be silk(?)

The handle is also showing signs of dry rot so I do not pick it up by its handle to prevent it from breaking.

Inside the tag reads Miss America travel companion. Was this a token to contestants or just a sponsored item? No clue. I never found another one or even any mention of it in my research. Not that I did a big search though.

No matter it is still something I like no matter what its history.
