Can you believe it? It's that time again and the kiddies are heading back to school. Summer seems to just fly by before you know it and crisp autumn days are on the way. My baby is starting her senior year, and I still remember her starting preschool just yesterday. Where did the time go?
While we were shopping for school supplies, I thought of how it was when I started school. We never bought notebooks, pencils and calculators. The first day of school we were excited to get the school issued tablet and that fat blue #2 pencil. That was it, no special pencil box or backpack. I found these old school books at a yard sale and just had to buy them.
This book was the owners name written in the front with the date 1889. The illustrations themselves are unique and oh so much fun to look at.
Now I'm going to date myself. How many remember these? Learning to read with Dick, Jane and little Sally. My heart skipped a beat when I found these in a box of books at a yard sale and I just had to buy them. This is the series I learned to read with. (Yes way back in the sixties.)
I felt like I was still in first grade reading them all over again. I know they are probably not worth any resale value but the sentimental value is priceless......
It seems like the first reading books are the same as here in Sweden. Not all the same, but the simple words and beautiful paintings.

Yes - I learned to read with Dick and Jane in the 50's! Still looks familiar! I enjoyed my visit here!
