Preserving Memories

Welcome Ladies! It's a cold, rainy day here and there is a dark gloomy feel about the day. For some reason I tend to feel a need to find ways to bring a smile to my lips at times like this.
I love to sit back have a cup of tea, read a book or page thru old photo albums. This antique photo album is of my relatives. Filled with old photos of people that I never knew makes one wish that you knew more about them.

I have a photo of my parents on their wedding day and I cherish it. I hope my children feel the same way. I paired it with an old pair of opera  glasses.

This is the first camera that my father bought. Oh how times have changed!

Maybe I'll show some of the photos from here one day. Some of the hair styles are a hoot!  But for now I have to go fetch my hubby from the dentist. So until next time cherish your memories because some day that is all we will be, just a memory.........

Puttin on the Glitz

Some say diamonds are a girls best friend , but I'll take pearls please.
I'm not sure when it happened, but it seems I have more pearls and aurora borealis necklaces than I ever thought I would own.

Mixed among the glam are a few mini perfume bottles that I bought when I was maybe ten. I think the unique shapes attracted me at such a young age.
Of course you have to have a hat pin or two or twenty or more.
Some where along the way also amassed the milk glassware too.

I love when the sun hits them and creates small prisms on the walls and ceiling.
Funny you never realize how many things you collect until you one day you say where did this come from?

Stop by Faith, Grace and Crafts and say hello to Doni. She is having a giveaway celebrating her 100th post.

Pink Saturday & Vintage Finds

I has been a few weeks since I have been able to contribute to pink Saturday. Between work and my daughter there just isn't enough hours in the day. Last Saturday was the first  time I forced myself to get up to go to a yard sale that sounded worth the effort. Coming home at 4:30 in the morning from work makes it hard to get up. Listed was vintage glassware,a Victrola, pedal car, and other sorts of collectibles. Purse in hand, off I went. Of course I had to talk myself down once I got there. "Do I really need this, Where am I going to put it, etc." This is some of my must have finds.
I got this whole set of 4 dishes for just $5.00. I believe they were never even used.

All the pieces were still wrapped in the paper they came in and I even had to soak a few to completely remove it.
These pink glasses also just had to come home too.

7 glasses for $2.00 not bad.
I also picked up these two depression glass serving dishes for $5.00.

Sometimes it pays to lose sleep.

Stop by and check out all the other participants with Beverly's at How Sweet the Sound.
Have a great Pink Saturday!

Enter If You Dare!

Ok, I'll admit it..... I love to haunt my house for Halloween! I tend to go nuts when I see stores putting out their Halloween inventory. So far this year I have been good and have not bought anything more than $5.00. Of course it's only the beginning of the month!
I plan on taking my cheerful flowers out of the cauldron and replace it with candy for any trick or treaters that venture close. If they can charm the witch that is!

This year I set up a witches table complete with potion bottles that I made. I had the bottles for about 2 years before I got around to adhere the rub-on labels to them. My mother had found the bottles for me at a thrift store while she was still living. Most had oils with unknown items floating in them.
I found the potion labels at Michael's last year and decided it was easier than printing my own. I have shining on the table from the back a green spot light which gives off an eerie glow.

I hope I'm not "bugging" anyone with my decorations. The bugs are some of hundreds hanging around. I would of loved to adhere them going up the wall but my hubby wouldn't let me! (We are having contractors come to repair siding & windows from their shoddy job and it would be useless to go throught the trouble) When you add a strobe light it makes you think that they are actually moving. Gives are real creepy feeling if you hate bugs.
Most of my props are from things my daughter and friends used to haunt their high school for a fun fund-raiser for their high school band. It is always a big hit with the area kids! Hence, the reason my skull is dripping in blood. I seemed to always be the mother they came to for help setting up. Not every mom knows how to make homemade blood cheap.

Cure For What Ails You

I'm cheating today by reposting an older post but I'm sure you may have not seen it so it will be new to you. Forgive me it has been a hectic week!
Hanging in my bathroom is this cabinet my dear hubby made for me. I needed something to display my collection of tins and other treasures.
Here's peek inside.
As you can see it is filled with all sorts of remedies and cure alls.
I have some shaving and barber wares. The shaving mug was my grandfathers.

Leaning up against the back corner is my grandmothers curling iron. Can you imagine having to heat this up to burn, I mean curl your hair?
This is an antique vaporizer with its original box. The smell of this is far worse than vicks. I also have a few eye wash cups and more tins.

The  pink mirror in the back is was my mothers and was always kept in her sock drawer for safe keeping. Needless to say I'm running out of room so it is hard to not buy more trinkets to add to my collection. Maybe I can have another bathroom added so he can build me another cabinet.

Spooking the Mantle

I really never seem to know what to do with this awkward corner fireplace. Between the dark paneling and the need for better light it usually is the depressing corner.

I didn't do to much fall-ish decorating here knowing it would soon be redone into a more haunted feel.

And now the transformation!
I still need to find my spiders that I have to add to the webbing but I just do not know where they are at the moment. So you will just have to imagine them crawling all along the webbing. LOL!

Both the books and head are motion sensored to move and talk but they can get very annoying after awhile.

I figured if the corner is already on the dark side why not take it all the way . Joining (late) Metamorphosis Monday with Susan at Between Naps on the Porch.
