Memorial Pink Saturday

Today I am going to do a simple post in honor of all the people killed on 9/11. These people were not just a number but someone who was loved and will always be missed in someones heart. In honor of them I am lighting this candle and offering a prayer to all the survivors. Most of us were able to simply go on with our lives but they are still living the nightmare in some form.

Please stop by Beverly at  How Sweet the Sound for more of Pink Saturday.

Fall Wreath

I know it is almost time for cooler weather but with it being 91 outside it sure does not feel it! The  cool night air is about the only indication of fall being just around the corner. I love being able to throw the windows open and have the night sounds lull one off to sleep. I could even hear the soft hoot of an owl calling out for its mate. Living in the country sure has its advantages.
I love fall but I am just not ready! I decided to get me more into a fall mood I would attempt to put together a wreath for the front door.
I really never put together a wreath before it was always easier to buy one but I sure cannot see putting out over $50 for a wreath! So picking up cheap dollar store items I decided to try my own.
I think it didn't turn out too bad for about $18.00. Ok, and maybe a few hot glue burns too.
I just have to find my ribbon I have to make a bow, I just am not sure where I put it. I just saw it last week but now ......
As soon as the days get cooler I will adventure into the storage shed and pull out more fall decor but this is going to have to do for now.

Have You Seen My Hubby?

Missing : 1 Hubby
5' 8" , Brown hair, green eyes.
Usually seen sitting in his recliner drinking coffee.
Last time seen wearing blue jeans, pocket T-shirt and wearing worn out white sneakers.
Direction headed unknown.
May be seen with his new favorite toy.
If found please return.

This is my hubbies mid-life crisis. HA!!
I could complain but it always could be worse.
I guess I should thank my father-in-law, since he is the one who gave it to my hubby.
THANK YOU!!!!
Now maybe I can actually learn how to use the remote control for the TV.
(Sorry the pics so dark, it is about the only time the MG sits still.)

Back To School

Can you believe it? It's that time again and the kiddies are heading back to school. Summer seems to just fly by before you know it and crisp autumn days are on the way. My baby is starting her senior year, and I still remember her starting preschool just yesterday. Where did the time go?
While we were shopping for school supplies, I thought of how it was when I started school. We never bought notebooks, pencils and calculators.  The first day of school we were excited to get the school issued tablet and that fat blue #2 pencil. That was it, no special pencil box or backpack. I found these old school books at a yard sale and just had to buy them.
This book was the owners name written in the front with the date 1889. The illustrations themselves are unique and oh so much fun to look at.
Now I'm going to date myself. How many remember these? Learning to read with Dick, Jane and little Sally. My heart skipped a beat when I found these in a box of books at a yard sale and I just had to buy them. This is the series I learned to read with. (Yes way back in the sixties.)
I felt like I was still in first grade reading them all over again. I know they are probably not worth any resale value but the sentimental value is priceless......

Miracle Party and Pink Saturday

This weeks Pink Saturday is a little different, today's party is about celebrating life's small and large miracles!
Bloggers are asked to check out a room makeover done for Colette Gauthier. Colette is battling breast cancer a thing in which my own sister is currently in her own battle for.  Please stop by The Katillac Shack for the full story and leave a comment for in which a $1.00 donation will be given in your name for the next MIRACLE MAKEOVER FOR SOMEONE IN NEED!

I'm going to cheat a little this week in order to talk a little about my sister. Anita was diagnosed with breast cancer right after the death of our mother  one year ago. Losing ones own mother compounded with the thought of ones own health ( she has numerous health issues including a rod helping her support her spine and previous heart attack) put her in a tail spin. But after many tears and sleepless nights we believe we have a very good long term outlook. The cancer was found to be only confinded to the breast.  AMEN!!!
Now on to the good part... In a way to keep her mind busy with other thoughts my sister makes dolls. She will do everything from rooting hair, painting faces, styling and dressing the baby each with their own unique personality. As she is working on each baby she gets a "feel" for each babies name and their own special outfit needed to make them come to life.
Now my daughter is 17 and is not into dolls but for this cutie she is willing to make the exception.

It really is hard to tell but she even put a little tear in the corner of her eye. On her tiny babies she even puts bubbles in their mouth.

I wish I had photos of some of her other dolls she has made, they can be quite an eye fooler at first glance! I quess I will have to ask her to do a photo shoot of her kids before her next show. These babies have been her salvation in a sort with not only keeping her occupied but also helping bring income into her household. If anyone would be intersted in ordering any baby she does her best to find just the right fit for your need. Just contact me and I will pass along any requests.
Be sure to stop by Beverlys' site and visit all other participants in this special edition of Pink Saturday by going to How Sweet the Sound!
Until then sweet dreams........ I had my sister email me a picture of one of her itty bitties but she was taking a nap. LOL

Pink Saturday Pup Style

My mommy says she needs to find something for pink Saturday. I'm going to see if I can help. Let's see..... how about this?
                                    Nah she won't like that.

Anything pink here? Mom maybe this?
Pink, pink got to find pink. I think I found the perfect thing. I know she'll LOVE IT!

It's my little pink tongue. Whew.... time for a nap, that was too much like work!
(No animal was harmed in anyway in the making of this blog post)

Leave Them in Stitches

Hello Ladies!
Today I decided to show you some of my sewing collection. I confiscated this old sewing machine from my sister years ago. It is seized up and a little rusty but I love it anyways.
The biscuit tin was from my aunt and she gave this to me when I was about six. I find it is perfect to hold all my sewing accessories.

I even found a little oil can and a bottle of machine oil unused.

My mother had this darning egg ever since I can remember. Does any one really mend socks anymore? Sorry mom but if a sock gets a hole in it I'm throwing it away. Hee Hee

Now I'm not too sure on this ivory item. I think it holds tools for lace making, but I know it is not complete or all original. I do know that there had to be another piece to it because it has threading that something else would screw on it. Unfortunately I have never seen another one like it.

Today I'm joining Doni for Pearls and Lace Thursday at Faith, Grace, and Crafts. Be sure to go by and say hello. So until next time.....

Nothing to Sneeze At

It's time again for Pink Saturday!
Today for my contribution I'm showing off a few of my handkerchiefs.

I love all the detail put into something that was tucked into a womans purse or just held in ones hand to daintly dab ones eyes.
Most of them have been picked up over time from here and there.

Please go by and say hello to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound and be sure to check out some of the other participants. Hope everyone has a great Pink Saturday!
